ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT PROGRAM

TAP, Inc. is helping low to moderate income single family homeowners develop an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) on their property. New York State grants up to $120,000 for qualified homeowners.

What is an ADU?
An ADU, or accessory dwelling unit, is a secondary residence on the same lot as a primary dwelling with features that allow a complete habitable space that allows for sleeping, cooking, and sanitation.

Who qualifies?
Homeowners whose primary household resides within the eligible area of Troy, NY. (see map below)
Households with incomes at or below 100% of the area median income (see chart below).
Homeowners whose primary residence is a single family home of 1-4 units.
ADUs that will have a year-round tenant, who may also be a family member, and will not be used for short-term or vacation rentals.

Eligibility Requirements
Owner-occupied single family residences that are within the highlighted census tracts on the map below and do not exceed the income limits for a household of their size are eligible for the Plus One ADU Program.
